Wedding entertainment can really make your special day. Whilst the focus will be on you as the stars of your special day, you also need to take your guests into account. You want them to enjoy the occasion too, and a great way of doing this is to provide entertainment.
From my point-of-view, I’d obviously urge you to think about hiring a close-up magician for your wedding!
Magic is the now one of the most popular choices for entertainment at weddings, which has been helped enormously by the recent resurgence in interest in magic thanks to younger, edgier performers like Dynamo and Troy, and Richard Jones, the latest winner of Britain’s Got Talent.
But there are lots of other ways to liven up the wedding reception as well. You could get inspiration for more unusual entertainment from TV programmes like Don’t Tell The Bride, but quite frankly some of those grooms clearly haven’t thought about how well their ideas will go down with even their bride, let alone their guests (ceremony in a swimming pool anyone?) So here are my top 5 wedding entertainment ideas you might not have thought of, but which will complement the magic of the day.
Have giant games available to provide a distraction for young and old alike. You can buy or hire games like Jenga, chess, snakes and ladders etc. You can also rent traditional fairground side stalls such as coconut shies, hoopla, hook a duck etc. Perfect outside if the weather’s good; perfect indoors if it isn’t, though you may have to rotate the games if there’s not enough space for all of them at the same time.
If you’ve got lots of kids coming to the wedding, think about ways of keeping them happy. You can hire children’s entertainment such as face painting, balloon modelling, dressing up boxes and even petting zoos. It’s also a good idea to give the kids their own area to hang around in in case they get bored, with cushions to sit on and things to keep them occupied (books, drawing, crafts etc)
The right lighting can be a show on its own. Hire a laser show with its own soundtrack, or send a laser message into the night sky.
Dancing is integral to all weddings, and it has been known for the happy couple to secretly prepare a dance routine to wow their guests with. But why don’t you get your guests up and dancing by hiring a dance instructor to teach them a simple routine. It’s not only a bit of fun, it also encourages everyone on to the dance floor.
Your guests will already be looking glamourous, so why not add a James Bond feel to your wedding by rounding off your evening with a fun casino. No money will be involved – it’s just a bit of fun. Everyone will get casino chips to play with, and the winner is the person with the most chips at the end of the evening. And it’s a great way of finding out who’s got the most competitive streak!
I hope this gives you a few ideas about other forms of entertainment which can help you create a truly special day! Contact me for more information about how I can help make your wedding or event positively magical!
