Notley Abbey, Buckinghamshire wedding with magic, medieval setting

Earlier this year, when I was invited to be the wedding magician for Jaydean and James, I had no idea that this couple had chosen such a stunning venue for their spring wedding in Buckinghamshire. Then I began to research Notley Abbey and discovered that it is, justifiably, described as a mediaeval masterpiece and the former home of film stars, husband and wife, and Hollywood legends, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh.

Dig deeper, and you will find that this superb venue has hosted many celebrity events and also entertained royalty. Ahead of the role it played in the lives of so many 20th-century actors and celebrities, like Sir Noel Coward, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, and Katherine Hepburn, this delightful abbey was visited by Henry VIII and Cardinal Wolsey in the early 16th century, until the Abbey’s dissolution by the very same monarch.

Such a good pedigree bodes well for a wedding of charm and romance, and Notley Abbey did not disappoint; it was simply enchanting and created the perfect atmosphere and setting for this very special occasion.

Choosing the right wedding location in Buckinghamshire can be quite a daunting task as the county is not large and, therefore, the range of suitable properties is quite limited; yet there are some fabulous places to consider. Jaydean and James’s choice certainly meant that I had a wonderful, curious, and unique building in which to perform my magic—so that I could add that extra special touch. Afterwards, the bride and groom said, “You did a great job; everyone absolutely loved the magic, and it really made our day special.” Notley Abbey was certainly a great place to make a day even more special! If you are planning a wedding in Buckinghamshire, please get in touch because I’d love to help you with your plans.
