The Christmas gift that will last a lifetime - Magic Lessons

Magic lessons: The Christmas gift that lasts a lifetime

As we head toward the Christmas season, it’s time to start thinking about gifts for your family and friends. If you’d like to avoid going the materialistic route and buying yet another Christmas hamper – why not consider gifting them a unique experience?

Magic lessons are a thoughtful present that allows your loved one the opportunity to learn magic, a skill that very few actually have. And when you book with CW Magic, you can choose one on one lessons or opt for a group class. So you can get a group of friends or siblings to experience the magic together!

Give a unique gift

Research shows that experiential purchases (travel, learning a new skill etc) leads to more enduring happiness than purchasing material goods. This is simply due to the fact that physical items provide temporary satisfaction and lose appeal after time whereas experiences become more meaningful and leave a lasting impact.

Experiences like taking a magic lesson will create a special memory that the person will look back on, recalling the learning opportunity positively. This is especially true if the experience is shared with others, for instance if a couple or best friends takes a magic lesson together, they bond through the experience and have a story to tell together too.

So when you’re deciding where to spend your hard earned money, remember that experiences are often a much more special gift that will be spoken about long after it’s over – making it well worth every penny and a perfect alternative to typical Christmas gift ideas.

Learn magic from a professional

The best part of magic lessons as a Christmas gift is that it is suitable for anyone from the age of six upwards (big kids love learning magic tricks too!). And it’s not just for one-to-one learning – if you’ve got two or more people in mind, Chris is more than happy to teach small groups. Each lesson can last one or two hours depending on the person/people you’re buying them for.

Chris specialises in close up magic, also known as sleight-of-hand magic and includes tricks such as card tricks, mind reading, pickpocketing to name a few. To give you an idea of what close up magic is, click here to watch some videos of his favourite tricks.

Chris specialises in close-up magic – also known as sleight-of-hand magic – and includes tricks such as card tricks, mind reading, and pickpocketing, to name a few.. The lessons themselves will be fun and informal as his aim is to pass on the joy of being a magician. And in the case of younger children especially, magic enables them to learn a host of other skills.

The benefits go beyond learning tricks

Magic is more than just a new hobby. It can also help children especially to improve their social skills because it encourages social interaction and builds self esteem.

Psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman gave magic lessons to 50 children at two Hertfordshire schools and concluded: “Showing and teaching the children magic tricks encourages skills, such as self-discipline and critical thinking. It also helps children to think from another person’s perspective, and consider how they are feeling.”

In other words, it will enhance their listening and learning skills, as well as developing their patience and resilience – you need to be extremely patient and dedicated in order to keep practising the tricks until you get them right!

Corporate magic lessons

Magic lessons also work brilliantly in a corporate setting because they encourage creativity, communication and confidence in a fun, engaging way. Learning magic tricks helps employees think differently, problem solve under pressure and nail their presentations. It’s also a great icebreaker that brings different teams together, and boosts morale.

What to expect

Our magic lessons are one or two hours long and teach students how to do card tricks, rope tricks, coin tricks and fun magic using an authentic magic set. Chris will supply all the items and props for students to keep and practice with. They’ll also receive a 15-page booklet of tricks, magician’s wand and playing cards. Not only does Chris teach incredible magic trick secrets, he will also explain the “how” and “why”, building confidence, performance skills, and a real magician’s mindset.

And as for the skill level of the person you’re purchasing the lesson for, not to worry! Chris has the teaching experience, patience and expertise to help people of all ages and abilities. Regardless of whether they’re 8 or 80, Chris will masterfully adapt the tricks he teaches to suit their age and needs, at the same time as making the whole thing a lot of fun!

Take a look at our gallery to see for yourself what kind of tricks Chris performs and the priceless reactions of party guests and students.

Double up with a magic show

If you’re giving your children magic lessons for Christmas (or birthdays or any other celebration), why not hire Chris to do a magic show on the same day? As an experienced Christmas party magician, he’ll show the kids what’s possible (with a lot of hard work and dedication of course) at the same time as giving them an experience with a real wow factor.

The joy of magicians at parties is that they appeal to everyone no matter how young or old your guests are. So if you’re getting together for a big family gathering, Chris can entertain everyone. And who knows, if your gift of magic lessons is a resounding success, they could be the ones entertaining at the family party next year!
