If you’re planning a big birthday celebration for yourself or a loved one, or are looking for an unusual birthday present (or both), I can magic up some great suggestions!
I’m often asked to perform magic at special birthday celebrations. Magic is always a popular way of entertaining guests of all ages, whether you’re having a huge party, a big celebratory dinner, a marquee in the garden or just a small family gathering.
Close-up magic will add a lot of fun and laughter to your birthday party. One of the best times to have it, in terms of ‘warming’ everyone up, is early on, once all the guests have arrived. In any large gathering, it’s likely that there will be different groups of people who don’t know each other well, if at all. This means that the start of the party is often a period when people are quietest and perhaps more reluctant to circulate and introduce themselves to new people.
By working my way around the room entertaining small groups of people at a time, I can definitely help raise the energy levels. My magic always gets people animated as they start laughing and chatting with each other about the tricks they’ve just seen. Often they’ll encourage more people to join the group I’m performing to, which creates a bigger buzz that resonates around the room. It doesn’t take long before everyone’s more relaxed and talkative, and enjoying your special party much more.
For large sit-down dinners, people hire me to entertain guests between courses, distracting those who have yet to be served from thinking about how long their meal is taking to arrive! I’ll talk to the catering staff to find out which order they’re serving tables in and perform magic for the last few tables first. By the time the final table has been served, the first table will have finished and, after their plates are cleared away, I’ll entertain them too. It’s a great way of keeping people entertained and always helps increase the noise levels!
