What is a Table Magician

In this section, I will explain all of the wonderful things that a close-up table magician in Hertfordshire can do for you at your party or event. When I use the term “table magician”, I am referring to a magician that is performing during a seated meal.

One very simple, but important fact is that no ‘good’ magician should perform for any audience whilst it’s dining and there are a number of reasons why. Firstly, the last hour or two of mingling, combined with a few drinks, has most likely resulted in a keen appetite for food among most of your guests.

Secondly, therefore, it is at this point during the event that an imminent meal becomes more important than the entertainment provided. As a professional entertainer, the last thing I want to do is get in the way of a table of guests enjoying their meal by inviting them to sign a playing card or making a borrowed object vanish.

When you go to events, you will notice that while everyone eats the starter and main course, a calm wave of silence will glide across each table which, conveniently, lets the catering staff know their meal is going down a treat. For this reason, as a table magician, I would avoid interrupting guests during this part of any meal and, in fact, use some subtle and clever tactics to ensure that I continue my performance without any more audience involvement.

What does the magician do?

As one of the top magicians in Hertfordshire this is what I would do, perform at the tables in between courses. By talking with the catering manager before the event starts, I find out all the little details such as which table is going to be served food first. This means we can work opposite ends of the room, ensuring that I perform for those waiting for their meal to arrive, instead of those eating their meal. Then I perform for those who have had their meal cleared while they wait for their next course. This ensures I am constantly performing for guests throughout the night.

The benefit of having a table magician at an event is that guests will always be kept busy; even if their food is late, I can cause a distraction so that the delay is not noticed. As a general rule, I will always try to perform for around 10-13 tables in a two-hour time frame, giving enough time to get around to everyone whilst ensuring that I am not disturbing anyone whilst they are eating.
