Ham Yard Hotel

I was recently asked to perform at a celebrity party as their magician at the upmarket Ham Yard Hotel in Soho.

This boutique hotel is incredible. The interior design is second-to-none, and it has a range of amazingly themed rooms that are perfect for any kind of event, from weddings and engagement parties to corporate events and birthday parties. Ham Yard Hotel has been described as both opulent and relaxing, and the staff are friendly, welcoming and attentive.

A big selling point of the hotel is that it’s right in the centre of London’s theatre district, a couple of minutes’ walk from Piccadilly Circus tube station and just minutes away from tourist attractions like Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery and Leicester Square. Despite being in the busiest part of London, the hotel is tucked away and is surprisingly quiet.

The event I performed at was a 40th birthday party for theatrical producer Michael Harrison, whose credits include major West End musical such as The Bodyguard, Annie and Young Frankenstein. He had 250 guests including a whole host of stars from the stage and screen.

I was booked to perform during the drinks reception and spent two hours mingling with guests surprising them with my close-up magic. I was lucky enough to perform for an eclectic mix of well-known people including Dawn French, Jason Donovan, Beverley Knight, Gok Wan, amongst others.

Everyone enjoyed my magic, and some of the celebrities were kind enough to give me some lovely feedback, including Queen guitarist Brian May who said: “A feast for the eyes, I still can’t believe what happened.” Singer Beverley Knight said: “You are amazing, what just happened was insane.” And singer Jason Donovan said: “My mind was hacked and I loved every minute of it.”

I love it when I get such great feedback, but I am always thrilled when fellow entertainers are prepared to take the time to give me such wonderful reviews.
